GOVERNMENT & MILITARY
There are two kinds of government in Illemore. Originally, there was only a monarchy, located in Krolis, but after the incident with the explorers, a lot of people fled Krolis after destroying the bridge, and founded Newbridge. A small part of the population stayed in Krolis, though. Most of these people felt a connection to the Cave, and wanted to be closer to it. They did no longer associate with the monarchy. To them, the monarch had abandoned and turned their back on something bigger than them, which resided in the Cave. They feared its wrath, and allowed a new form of authority to take control of the city: the Priesthood of the Cave. A central Priest(ess) rules over the people in Krolis, assisted by their Eyes and Ears.
The Newbridge monarchy is organised similarly to Almeran, but on a smaller scale. There are less inhabitants in Illemore, thus there is less need for a big royal court. The title of monarch is passed down to the oldest child.
Lord/lady Steward — Mediator between the monarch and the people.
Captain of the Brigade — Head of the military and advisor.
The military, called the Brigade, is also centralised and under command of the Captain.
Captain of the Brigade — Highest authority in the Brigade.
Officers — Responsible for the training of the soldiers and obeying the Captain's orders.
Soldiers — Most common rank in the military, simply a soldier.
Ranger — Trained for missions, mostly to investigate the Cave. There are only a few rangers.
The Priesthood of the Cave is organised like a cult. Citizens of Krolis worship the Priest(ess) and believe they are connected to the forces in the Cave. Whether they really believe in Utarr depends on each individual Priest(ess), but all of them are Children of Utarr. The Priesthood is not a recognised authority by anyone except for the people of Krolis. Technically, the Monarch rules here as well, but Krolis doesn't obey.
The role of Priest(ess) is passed down to someone the current Priest(ess) deems worthy. Often, it's one of their children, but it can be anyone.
Priest(ess) — The leader of the Priesthood, highest authority in Krolis.
Ears — The Ears are in charge of listening around and bringing rumours to the Priest(ess). One person.
Eyes — The Eyes are in charge of reporting anything unusual they have seen. One person.
Their 'military' is called Order of the Children, but is very small. The ranks are:
War Priest(ess) — Leader of the 'military': a small group of rogue-like warriors with little official training.
War Child — A warrior in the Order. They fight very street-like and don't have a real combat strategy. Children of Utarr can join the Order after their ritual at the Cave.
